Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef and pork)
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 package refrigerated biscuit dough (or homemade pizza dough)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet.
  2. In a large bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, egg, garlic, oregano, basil, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and milk.
  3. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet and sear meatballs until browned on all sides (3-4 minutes per side).
  5. Add marinara sauce and simmer the meatballs for 10-12 minutes.
  6. Flatten each biscuit dough portion slightly or divide pizza dough into equal portions.
  7. Place each meatball in the center of the dough portion and wrap it completely, sealing the edges underneath.
  8. Place the wrapped meatballs seam-side down on the greased baking sheet.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the dough turns golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven, top each with shredded mozzarella, and bake for another 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted.
  11. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.
  12. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley and serve with extra marinara sauce.

Notes

  • For extra cheesiness, place a small mozzarella cube inside each meatball before wrapping in dough.
  • Use fresh, high-quality marinara sauce for the best flavor.
  • Can be made ahead—store assembled but unbaked bombs in the fridge for up to a day before baking.
  • Reheat leftovers in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes for best results.
  • Try different cheeses like provolone or gouda for a twist.
