Description

Tender, flavorful brisket slow-cooked to perfection and coated in a tangy homemade barbecue sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon liquid smoke (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your slow cooker to low.
  2. In a small bowl, combine smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the brisket.
  3. Place the brisket in the slow cooker.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together ketchup, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and liquid smoke (if using). Pour this sauce over the brisket.
  5. Cover and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the brisket is fork-tender.
  6. Remove the brisket from the slow cooker and let it rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing against the grain.
  7. Shred or slice the brisket and return it to the slow cooker with the sauce to keep warm.
  8. Serve warm with extra sauce on the side.

Notes

  • For best results, trim excess fat from the brisket before cooking.
  • You can adjust the amount of cayenne pepper for more or less heat.
  • This brisket is great in sandwiches, on its own, or with your favorite sides like coleslaw and potato salad.
