Description
A straightforward recipe for sweet and savory sesame chicken.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- Vegetable oil for cooking
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds, toasted
- Cooked rice, for serving
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, ginger, and garlic. Set aside.
- In a separate small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch until smooth to create a slurry.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
- Add the chicken pieces and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- Pour the reserved sauce mixture into the skillet. Bring to a simmer.
- Whisk the cornstarch slurry again and slowly pour it into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens.
- Return the cooked chicken to the skillet. Toss to coat the chicken evenly with the sauce.
- Remove from heat. Sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.
- Serve immediately over cooked rice.
Notes
- Toast sesame seeds in a dry skillet over medium heat for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
- You can substitute chicken thighs for chicken breast if you prefer.
