Description
Classic Salisbury steak with garlic mashed potatoes and a rich mushroom and onion gravy.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and quartered
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well and form into four oval patties.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 4-5 minutes per side, until browned. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
- Add sliced onion and mushrooms to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
- In a small bowl, whisk together beef broth and flour until smooth. Pour into the skillet with the vegetables.
- Bring the gravy to a simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
- While the Salisbury steak is simmering, boil potatoes in a large pot of salted water until tender. Drain.
- Mash potatoes with milk and butter until smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Serve Salisbury steak with gravy over garlic mashed potatoes.
Notes
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for ground beef.
- Add other vegetables to the gravy, such as peas or carrots.
- For a thicker gravy, add more flour. For a thinner gravy, add more beef broth.
