- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, softened butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-1.5 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12-16 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a smooth ball.
- Arrange the dough balls in a greased baking pan, leaving some space between them.
- Cover the pan and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Brush the tops of the rolls with the beaten egg wash.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
