A unique twist on a classic, combining the comfort of sloppy joes with the cheesy goodness of grilled cheese.
Ingredients

- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 8 slices bread
- 8 slices cheese (cheddar or American recommended)
- Butter for grilling
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Season with salt and pepper.
- Simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
- While the sloppy joe mixture simmers, butter one side of each bread slice.
- Place cheese slices on the unbuttered side of four bread slices.
- Spoon a generous portion of the sloppy joe mixture onto the cheese.
- Top with the remaining four bread slices, buttered side up.
- Grill the sandwiches in a skillet or on a griddle over medium heat until golden brown and the cheese is melted, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a pinch of garlic powder to the sloppy joe mixture.
- Experiment with different types of cheese for varied taste.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
