Instructions
- In a bowl, combine sliced strawberries with 2 tablespoons of sugar and lemon zest. Let sit for 15 minutes to macerate.
- In a shallow dish, combine cooled coffee or espresso with the remaining 2 tablespoons of sugar and strawberry liqueur (if using). Stir until sugar dissolves.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together mascarpone cheese, egg yolks, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- In another bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture until just combined.
- Dip ladyfingers briefly into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are moistened but not soggy. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers in the bottom of a serving dish.
- Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Layer half of the macerated strawberries over the mascarpone cream.
- Repeat layers with remaining ladyfingers, mascarpone mixture, and strawberries.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow flavors to meld.
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves before serving, if desired.

- For a non-alcoholic version, use strawberry syrup instead of liqueur.
