- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup plain yogurt
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking sheet.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together yogurt and milk.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently a few times until it forms a smooth ball.
- Roll out the dough into a 1/2-inch thick rectangle.
- Cut the dough into 1-inch wide strips.
- Gently twist each strip and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush the tops with the beaten egg wash. Sprinkle with sugar if desired.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Yogurt type can be full-fat or low-fat.
- Milk can be whole, skim, or plant-based.
- For a sweeter roll, add 1-2 tablespoons of sugar to the dough.
- These rolls are best served warm.
