Description

Simple recipe for cooking apples with cinnamon on the stovetop.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp or Gala)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Peel, core, and chop the apples into 1/2-inch pieces.
  2. Place the chopped apples and water in a medium saucepan.
  3. Cover the saucepan and cook over medium heat for 5 minutes, or until the apples begin to soften.
  4. Stir in the cinnamon and maple syrup, if using.
  5. Continue to cook uncovered for another 3 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the apples reach your desired tenderness.
  6. Remove from heat and serve warm.

Notes

  • Use firm apples for better texture retention.
  • For a thicker sauce, cook for a few extra minutes without a lid.
