Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, egg, salt, and pepper. Form into four patties.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add mushroom slices and cook until tender.
  3. Remove mushrooms from skillet and set aside.
  4. Add ground beef patties to the skillet and cook until browned on both sides and cooked through.
  5. Remove patties from skillet and set aside.
  6. Add flour to the skillet and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  7. Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet.
  8. Bring to a simmer and cook until thickened.
  9. Return mushrooms and patties to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes, or until heated through.
  10. Serve hot.

Notes

  • You can substitute other types of ground meat, such as ground turkey or pork.
  • Add a splash of red wine to the gravy for extra flavor.
