Description
Delicious meatballs simmered in a creamy mushroom sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 pound mushrooms, sliced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
- Form the mixture into 1-inch meatballs.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add meatballs and brown on all sides. Remove meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- Add butter to the same skillet. Add sliced mushrooms and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and stir for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until meatballs are cooked through.
- Stir in heavy cream and cook for another 2-3 minutes, until heated through.
- Serve hot.
Notes
- You can use a mix of ground beef and pork for the meatballs.
- Feel free to add other vegetables to the sauce, such as bell peppers or spinach.
- Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, or rice.
