- ½ cup butter, softened
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- ½ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 ½ cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and packed brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it is warm but not boiling.
- Gradually add the warm milk to the butter and brown sugar mixture, beating until well combined.
- Stir in the salt and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating until the icing is smooth and fluffy.
- If the icing is too thick, add a tablespoon or two of milk until it reaches the desired consistency.
Notes
- Make sure your butter is truly softened for the best results.
- Do not overheat the milk.
- Add the powdered sugar gradually to avoid lumps.
