A delicious upside-down apple tart with caramelized apples and a buttery crust.


Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cubed
  • 34 tbsp ice water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Melt butter in a skillet, add sugar and cinnamon. Stir until caramelized.
  3. Arrange apple slices in the caramel mixture and cook for 5 minutes.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour and salt. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  5. Add ice water gradually until dough forms.
  6. Roll out dough and place over apples in the skillet.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes, then invert onto a serving plate.

Notes

  • Use firm apples like Granny Smith for best results.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
