Description
A simple, rustic tart featuring fresh summer apples and peaches baked in flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
- 2 medium apples, thinly sliced
- 2 medium peaches, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- 1 tablespoon coarse sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit (200 degrees Celsius). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, gently toss the sliced apples and peaches with the granulated sugar, flour, lemon juice, and cinnamon until coated.
- Unfold the thawed puff pastry sheet onto the prepared baking sheet. Do not unfold it completely if it is still folded; gently press it into a rough square or rectangle.
- Arrange the fruit mixture in the center of the pastry, leaving a 1.5-inch border around the edges.
- Fold the edges of the pastry up and over the fruit, overlapping the folds slightly to create a rustic crust border.
- Brush the folded pastry edges with the beaten egg wash.
- Sprinkle the coarse sugar over the egg-washed crust.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the fruit is tender and bubbling.
- Let the galette cool on the baking sheet for at least 15 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- You can substitute the apples and peaches with other firm summer fruits like plums or berries.
- For a richer flavor, brush the fruit lightly with melted butter before folding the edges.
