Description

A simple and delicious recipe for Rum Baba.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together warm milk and egg.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  4. Add the softened butter and mix until incorporated.
  5. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 5-7 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  7. Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.
  8. Shape each portion into a ball and place them in greased muffin cups.
  9. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  11. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  12. While the rum babas are baking, combine rum, heavy cream, and powdered sugar in a small bowl. Whisk until smooth.
  13. Once the rum babas are out of the oven, prick them all over with a skewer or fork.
  14. Pour the rum mixture over the warm rum babas, allowing it to soak in.
  15. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh berries if desired.

Notes

  • Ensure your milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • You can adjust the amount of rum in the soaking mixture to your preference.
  • Rum babas are best served warm.
