Description

A simple baked casserole perfect for breakfast or brunch.


Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups cubed bread (stale bread works well)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, dry mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Layer half of the cubed bread in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  4. Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage and half of the cheese over the bread layer.
  5. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, sausage, and cheese.
  6. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the dish.
  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly browned.
  9. Let the casserole stand for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.

Notes

  • You can substitute ham or bacon for the sausage.
  • Use sourdough or French bread for the best texture.
  • Prepare the night before and refrigerate, covered, before baking in the morning.
