Description
A simple baked casserole perfect for breakfast or brunch.
Ingredients

- 6 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 cups cubed bread (stale bread works well)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, dry mustard powder, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the cubed bread in the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
- Sprinkle half of the cooked sausage and half of the cheese over the bread layer.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, sausage, and cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers in the dish.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes, or until the casserole is set and lightly browned.
- Let the casserole stand for 5 minutes before cutting and serving.
Notes
- You can substitute ham or bacon for the sausage.
- Use sourdough or French bread for the best texture.
- Prepare the night before and refrigerate, covered, before baking in the morning.
