Description
This recipe for Dad’s Beer Can BBQ Chicken results in a moist and flavorful chicken cooked on the grill with a beer can inside.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 whole chicken (about 3–4 pounds)
- 1 can (12 ounces) beer
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons your favorite BBQ rub
Instructions
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (around 350-400°F).
- Prepare the chicken by removing the neck and giblets. Rinse the chicken inside and out and pat it dry with paper towels.
- Rub the chicken with olive oil and then generously season it with your favorite BBQ rub, making sure to get it under the skin as well.
- Open the beer can and pour out about 1/4 of the beer (you can drink it!).
- Carefully place the chicken cavity over the open can of beer, so the can is inside the chicken and the chicken is sitting upright.
- Place the chicken on the grill, propped up by the beer can. Close the lid.
- Grill the chicken for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the internal temperature of the thickest part of the thigh reaches 165°F (74°C).
- Carefully remove the chicken from the grill using tongs. Be cautious as the beer can will be hot.
- Let the chicken rest for 10-15 minutes before carving and serving.
Notes
- Experiment with different types of beer for varying flavors.
- You can add wood chips to your grill for a smoky flavor.
- Baste the chicken with BBQ sauce during the last 30 minutes of cooking for extra flavor.
