Description
A simple, comforting dish featuring smoked sausage and sauerkraut in a creamy sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound kielbasa sausage, sliced
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 (16 ounce) jar sauerkraut, drained
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Salt to taste
Instructions
- Cook the sliced kielbasa in a large skillet over medium heat until lightly browned on both sides. Remove the sausage and set aside.
- Melt the butter in the same skillet. Add the chopped onion and cook until soft, about 5 minutes.
- Stir in the drained sauerkraut and caraway seeds. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour in the chicken broth. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, allowing the liquid to reduce slightly.
- Return the cooked kielbasa to the skillet. Stir in the heavy cream and black pepper.
- Heat through gently until the sauce is warm, about 2-3 minutes. Do not boil after adding the cream.
- Taste and add salt if needed before serving.
Notes
- Serve this dish over egg noodles or mashed potatoes for a complete meal.
- If you prefer a tangier flavor, use less cream or add a splash of white vinegar at the end.
