Description

A warm and comforting dessert with tart cranberries and sweet apples, topped with a crunchy oat topping.


Ingredients

  • 6 cups sliced apples (about 34 medium apples)
  • 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples and cranberries.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Sprinkle this mixture over the apple and cranberry mixture and toss to coat.
  4. Pour the fruit mixture into an 8×8 inch baking dish.
  5. In a separate medium bowl, combine 1 cup flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt.
  6. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  7. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the fruit mixture in the baking dish.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit is bubbly.
  9. Let it cool slightly before serving.

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
  • You can add chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping for extra crunch.
