Ingredients

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Reserve 1 1/2 cups of the dough for the topping. Press the remaining dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Sprinkle the chocolate chips over the dough in the pan.
- Crumble the reserved dough over the chocolate chips.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
- Let cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
Notes
- For a richer chocolate flavor, use dark cocoa powder.
- You can substitute milk chocolate chips or white chocolate chips for the semi-sweet.
- Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
