A recipe for making classic chocolate chip scones served with clotted cream.
Ingredients

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
- Clotted cream, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- In a small bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 3/4-inch thick round.
- Cut the round into 8 wedges.
- Place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Let the scones cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Serve warm with clotted cream.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, you can use heavy cream instead of milk.
- Ensure your butter is very cold for the best scone texture.
- You can add a pinch of cinnamon to the dry ingredients for extra warmth.
