Rich chocolate chip cookie bars topped with a warm, gooey hot fudge sauce, perfect for Christmas.

- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- For Hot Fudge Sauce:
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1/3 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
- While the bars are baking, prepare the hot fudge sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth.
- Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Once the cookie bars are out of the oven, immediately pour the hot fudge sauce over the warm bars.
- Let cool slightly before cutting into bars.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
- If you don’t have milk, heavy cream or half-and-half can be used for the hot fudge sauce.
- Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature.
