Description

Rich chocolate chip cookie bars topped with a warm, gooey hot fudge sauce, perfect for Christmas.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • For Hot Fudge Sauce:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  7. Spread the cookie dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
  9. While the bars are baking, prepare the hot fudge sauce. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  10. Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth.
  11. Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar and milk until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  12. Once the cookie bars are out of the oven, immediately pour the hot fudge sauce over the warm bars.
  13. Let cool slightly before cutting into bars.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate chips.
  • If you don’t have milk, heavy cream or half-and-half can be used for the hot fudge sauce.
  • Store leftover bars in an airtight container at room temperature.
