Description
A layered dessert featuring French toast, caramel sauce, and apples.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf brioche bread, cut into 1-inch cubes
- 6 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup butter
- 4 cups chopped apples
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1 cup whipped cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Dip the toasted bread cubes into the egg mixture, ensuring they are well coated.
- Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the soaked bread cubes in batches until golden brown on all sides.
- In a separate saucepan, combine chopped apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Cook over medium heat until apples are tender, about 5-7 minutes.
- In a trifle dish, layer half of the cooked French toast, followed by half of the cooked apples, and then half of the caramel sauce. Repeat the layers.
- Top with whipped cream. Chill for at least 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use day-old brioche bread.
- You can add chopped pecans or walnuts between layers for added crunch.
- Ensure the apples are cooked until tender but not mushy.
