Description

Spicy, saucy, and packed with bold flavors, these Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a quick and easy dinner perfect for family meals or parties.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 6 sandwich buns
  • Fresh parsley or green onions, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Sauté for 5-6 minutes until softened.
  2. Push vegetables to the side of the pan and add ground chicken. Cook while breaking it up until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Stir in Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Mix well to coat evenly.
  4. Add tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar (if using). Stir and simmer for 5 minutes until thickened.
  5. Meanwhile, toast the buns if desired for extra texture.
  6. Spoon the chicken mixture onto the toasted buns. Garnish with parsley or green onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust Cajun seasoning for a milder or spicier flavor.
  • Ground turkey can be used instead of ground chicken.
  • Leftover filling can be frozen for up to 2 months.
  • Serve the filling over rice or sweet potatoes for a twist.
  • Toasted buns help keep the sandwiches from becoming soggy.
