Description

Bratwurst Delight is a juicy, flavorful sausage recipe served on toasted buns with sautéed peppers and onions. Perfect for cookouts, game days, or easy dinners, it’s a hearty favorite that’s simple and satisfying.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 46 uncooked bratwurst sausages
  • 1 tablespoon oil (for stovetop cooking)
  • 1 cup beer (optional, for simmering)
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 orange bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 large yellow or sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil or butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: garlic powder or crushed red pepper flakes
  • 46 hot dog or hoagie buns, lightly toasted
  • Optional toppings: spicy mustard, sauerkraut, shredded cheese, pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill to medium heat (350–375°F), or heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat for stovetop method.
  2. Optional: Simmer bratwurst in a pan with 1 cup beer or water for 10–15 minutes to infuse flavor and precook.
  3. Transfer brats to grill or skillet. Cook 5–7 minutes, turning occasionally, until browned and internal temp reaches 160°F. Let rest.
  4. In a skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil or butter. Add sliced peppers and onions with a pinch of salt and pepper.
  5. Sauté 12–15 minutes over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until vegetables are soft and caramelized. Add garlic powder or pepper flakes if desired.
  6. Toast buns lightly on grill or in a pan until golden.
  7. Place each brat in a bun, top with a generous spoonful of sautéed peppers and onions, and add your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • Simmering brats in beer before grilling keeps them juicy and adds flavor.
  • Don’t pierce the brats while cooking to retain juices.
  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure brats reach 160°F internally.
  • Peppers and onions can be made up to 2 days ahead and reheated before serving.
  • Great for meal prep or crowd-sized servings—just scale up ingredients as needed.
