Description
A refreshing homemade lemonade flavored with fresh blueberries and mint.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4–6 lemons)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup water (for simple syrup)
- 4 cups cold water (for mixing)
- 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, lightly packed
- Ice cubes
Instructions
- Make the simple syrup: Combine 1 cup sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat.
- Muddle the blueberries and mint: Place the blueberries and mint leaves in a medium pitcher. Gently crush them with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release juices and oils.
- Combine liquids: Pour the warm simple syrup into the pitcher with the muddled fruit and mint. Stir well.
- Add lemon juice and water: Stir in the fresh lemon juice and 4 cups of cold water.
- Chill: Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour to allow flavors to meld.
- Serve: Strain the lemonade through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean pitcher, pressing down on the solids to extract liquid. Discard solids. Serve over ice. Garnish with fresh blueberries and mint sprigs if desired.
Notes
- For a less sweet drink, reduce the sugar in the simple syrup to 3/4 cup.
- You can blend the blueberries and mint with the simple syrup instead of muddling, then strain thoroughly.
