Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cooked brown rice
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Mash the black beans in a bowl until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
  2. Mix in the brown rice, onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, soy sauce, cumin, and smoked paprika. Season with salt and pepper.
  3. Form the mixture into four equal patties.
  4. Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  5. Cook the patties for 4 to 5 minutes per side, until heated through and browned.
  6. Serve on buns with your preferred toppings.

Notes

  • For firmer patties, chill the mixture for 30 minutes before forming.
