Description
A recipe for savory, cheesy biscuits made without gluten.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups gluten free all-purpose flour blend with xanthan gum
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
- 1 cup cold buttermilk
- 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the gluten free flour blend, baking powder, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
- Pour in the cold buttermilk and mix just until a shaggy dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between biscuits.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the tops are lightly golden brown.
- While the biscuits bake, prepare the topping: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, and dried parsley.
- As soon as the biscuits come out of the oven, brush the tops generously with the garlic butter mixture.
- Serve warm.
Notes
- Use a gluten free flour blend that already contains xanthan gum for best results.
- Keep the buttermilk and butter very cold for tender biscuits.
- You can add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the cheese mixture for a little heat.
