Description
Indulge in the sweet and decadent flavors of Bananas Foster in a delightful French toast creation.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup dark rum (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 thick slices of challah or brioche bread
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Butter for griddle
Instructions
- In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
- Add sliced bananas and cook for 2-3 minutes per side, until softened.
- Stir in brown sugar, rum (if using), cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cook, stirring, until sugar is dissolved and sauce thickens slightly, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract. Keep warm.
- In a shallow dish, whisk together eggs, milk, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are well coated.
- Heat a buttered griddle or non-stick pan over medium heat.
- Cook French toast for 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Serve hot, topped with the warm Bananas Foster sauce.
Notes
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the rum and add an extra tablespoon of milk or orange juice to the sauce.
- You can use other types of bread, but challah or brioche provide a rich texture.
- Adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to your preference.
